Furious

I ran my hands through the cans of fruit cocktails.  There were hundreds of them, arranged nicely on the racks. I picked one after another and was astonished to find that none had the jakim halal sign. I left the spot feeling very unsatisfied and angry.

Rumours spread (so that's what I was told) about the lychees in cans that were claimed to be halal but not at all. I told about this to many lychees-lover friends but ended up feeling like strangling their necks because of their oohs and aahs why must you believe the internets. There are things that are not to be gobbled in blindly but there are also things that are not to be discarded away just because they are not acceptable to you.

On my office table yesterday, there were two cans of lychees and a pack of crackers which my staffs acquired from the hamper they won in sport's day. The negative side of buying hampers which are already packed is that we dont really know what they put inside. We dont have the opportunity to choose. And the can of lychees and the pack of cracker that were on the table didnot have the jakim halal sign. Yes, there was the halal sign alright but the one that was not authorised. Just a simple halal sign that anybody can paste on.  That irresponsible halal sign. After briefing my staffs, those things ended up in the dustbin.

When we go overseas especially to the non-muslim countries we are very concerned about what we eat. It is very natural to find non-halal food in non-muslim countries. It is already engraved in our minds that way and it made us prepared before the bon voyage.  But to be sceptical about what we eat in our own country that is something crazy that make us very furious. Perhaps to many if not all.

I bought times when I shopped for groceries because I had to read the labels. But I learned to chose. If I couldnt get the one that I wanted because of uncertainty, I would get something else which was equally good or a bit less good because I was sure that it was something that should get into my family bloodstreams.

Kirin asked me before she went off to work this morning;
Do I have to buy fruits cocktail.
Yes but buy the one that has the jakim halal sign on the can.

She's going to have makan-makan tomorrow and she plans to bring over triffle, something that's simple and easy to make.

To my friends out there, be aware of what you buy and what you eat.  My advice is, dont order lychee drinks when you eat out.  You dont know what they serve for you eventhough it is in a muslim restaurant.  Order something that you are sure of.

Betullah kan Kakpah.. kadang2 kita take for granted je makan kat Muslim Restaurant padahal kita tak tahu sumber makanan/minuman yang masuk ke perut, seterusnya jadi darah daging! :(

Agreed as what you said. Not only lychees, a lot of can drinks shown with halal logo but is not the authorised one.

Spread all these issues as Muslim responsibilities is fardhu kifayah also. TQ for your concerned.

kita duduk di negara islam - katanya
tapi - bab makan - rasa macam dah duduk kat negara cina....

adehhhhh!~ rasa sakit hati bila pegi mini market or kedai runcit - bila tengok makanan dalam tin macam sardin or tuna - di letak sebaris dengan pork in a tin!
bengong betul tuan punya kedai!

terjadi - kat kedai di tempat iols tinggal...
being me - memang kekadang terlebih berani - iols terus cakap dengan tuan punya kedai - told him it is NOT RIGHT at all - untuk letak makanan dalam tin yg halal dan tak halal bersebelahan
pembeli mungkin akan tersilap pandang...

nasib baik - tuan kedai paham - terus ubah letak pork tu kat shelf bahagian bawah!

ni la masalahnya bila undang2 tak dikuatkuasakan sepenuhnya.. orang yg sepatutnya memantau buat kerja sambil lewa.. so orang yg produce will take it for granted. semuanya sebab nak untung cepat n berganda2

Assalamualaikum KakPah,

Sekarang ni susah nak pastikan tanda halal tu betul ker dari Jakim.

Jalan terbaik berwaspada jerlah.

Betul tuh kak... kat sini saya more cari sign vegetarian atau vegan.. once nmpk lebih yakin mmg confirm takde meat.. but kalau beli coklat atau aiskrim atau desert kena alert pulak ada alcohol atau tidak walaupun ada sign vegetarian tuh

kakcik,
kena berhati2 jugak walaupun kedai melayu.

azani,
kapsul kena pilih yang ada tanda halal.

kaklong,
tu jakim kena pantau selalu. once dah bagi cert jangan tak pantau.

kakzakie,
kita ni kena selalu berwaspada.

azeeda,
heh heh.. tu belum kena suruh cakap tamil. lagilah terbelit tangan ko.

miloais,
ada kedai yang kurang sensitif tentang benda-benda macam tu. baguslah miloais punya inisiatif untuk menegur. Bagi yang paham, dia boleh terima. Tapi yang tak paham tu mungkin kita kena tengking balik hehe..
